Free Motion Embroidery

Here is a little free motion, machine embroidery, practice piece I just finished. I have tried this technique with my machine before, but it is starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of it a little better now.

After several experiments, I learned that it was very beneficial for me to draw out my main lines on the fabric before I start stitching. My tool of choice here was a Pilot Frixion Ball pen (which disappears with heat), so I could either stitch the lines I had drawn or fill in the area between two lines without fear of messing up the overall design. A little touch from the iron and voila...my temporary lines are gone!

My Little Bowl

This piece started life as free-form crocheted bowl in shades of green wool. Once felted I never really cared for how it turned out...so it just sat quietly on a shelf in the corner of the studio until...
My dear friend Nancy made a coiled bowl that was so inspiring that the gears immediately started turning. I took one of the felted cords I had made back in February and wrapped it around the little felted bowl. Loose layers of embroidery stitches all around tie everything together and just make me smile. :) This little bowl just begs to be picked up and held!

Also, the little piece of blue wool in the bottom actually came from a failed felting experiment back in 2010! It feels right at home in there for some reason...like a forgotten little pond tucked away in a field of wildflowers...

Double Rainbow

This was AWESOME!!! I can't remember the last time I've seen a rainbow, and today (as I drove home) I got to see a DOUBLE rainbow!! I couldn't fit it in the whole frame, but it was simply breathtaking. A perfect, complete rainbow that touched the ground on both sides. Somehow I managed to pull over and snap this pic with my phone.

God is so good, and His creation is AMAZING!!!
