Heart Rocks

Each of my girls collected a special rock from our trip to buy vegetables and herbs for the garden. LOVE!

Large Red Heart from Scrumbles

Yes...it's another scrumble. ;) Well, actually this is quite a few little scrumbles that were later arranged into this heart and stitched together. This is the only way to crochet in my opinion...

It doesn't matter that I can't seem to read or follow a pattern, I never loose my spot if I have to stop and start again, and it's relaxing (like drawing little doodles in the margins of your paper to pass the time). The only drawback is if you do it in a public place, people tend to ask what you're making and "I don't know" or "not sure yet" just seems to create a really awkward moment and require further explanation if they are still waiting for one. Hmmm...perhaps I should come up with a better response in advance?

Little Wooden Houses

My sister made some little wooden houses for us to decorate.

Aren't they wonderful? Just look at the little roofs! She is so talented! :)

I gave them all a color wash...but for some reason I can't bring myself to do anything else (I think for fear of ruining them). Isn't that silly? My mind (and Pinterest) is full of ideas, but I think it's too full.

I even let my 4 year old draw on a couple of them to see if that would spark some inspiration...but she got carried away and started coloring them solid with bold sharpie on top of her precious drawings. Luckily I saved one before it got the "special treatment". ;)

Better let them just live like this for a while longer and see if my mind will marinate on them in the background and come up with a plan.

Spinning Yarn is the Best

So much fun! Need I say more?

Spinning with Orts

Today's experiment was to spin some yarn with lots of the little thread snippits (orts) mixed in for fun.

It was a bit loose and I was afraid all my little bits were going to fall off...so it also became my first attempt at plying yarn to keep them anchored in a little better.

If I had carded them into the wool prior to spinning (rather than adding them loosely as I went), I think it would have resulted in a sturdier yarn.
