More Yarn Experiments

Charcoal grey curly locks and multi-colored batt were used to create this yarn.

I tried core spinning with this next one, and the core is a petite bouclé yarn. It added some nice texture throughout because of the thin spots, but I can't say I love core spinning. Feels like I don't have enough hands to hold everything while using a drop spindle.

My 3 year old helped me spin this last one. It was created from a bag of mixed silk fibers, curly locks, and wool roving in various shades or orange. Pretty awesome if I do say so myself! I love how it is so chunky, and the silk fiber was a great addition. It felt like it was the glue holding everything together.

Spun from my Carded Wool

I found a box of carded wool I had blended years ago that were stashed away waiting for a purpose.

Some sparkly angelina fibers are in this one.

I had a few small rolls of carded wool in different shades of blue and green, so I spun them together to make what I'm calling landscape yarn. When woven or crocheted into a little rectangle, it should make a nice little scene on which to add embroidery.

I Shall Learn to Spin Yarn

I have admired more handspun yarn online than I would like to admit over the last few months. Not your plain, even-tempered yarn in respectable colors...no. Wild, chunky yarns in bold, extravagant colors.

When a dear friend of mine told me out of the blue that she was buying a spinning wheel, I was so excited! It sparked something in me that told me I had to give it a try too! Now, I'm not going right out to buy a wheel tomorrow...but it's not off the table. I've got all the supplies I would need already, except for a drop spindle...and she and another sweet friend each lent me one today.

Today is officially my spinning birthday! :) Here is my first attempt at spinning yarn...more experiments to come...

Beaded Wire Crochet Necklace

Here is an experiment in crocheting with wire and beads. Not as hard as I would have thought...and pretty fun actually!

Here is my sample piece, where I practiced the technique.

I then made three long wire crochet strands and braided them around a fiber cord of recycled sari silk yarn. I believe it is to become a necklace...but I have to work out the clasp before it will be finished.
